About
As a Jumpstarter, every week you’ll sit with a group of preschoolers
and open a book together. You’ll ask questions, listen, laugh, and build
on what they say, and those back-and-forth conversations will build
the brain of a future reader. As a Jumpstarter, you’ll bring a playful,
research-based curriculum to life, giving children ages 3 to 5 the skills
they need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond
What You'll Do
Partner in a local preschool classroom for a minimum of 4 hours a week.
Work with the same small group of children all semester so you’ll see
real growth over time. Lead playful, structured activities from Jumpstart Kids' research-based curriculum, including guided play, small-group discussions, and shared storybook reading. Jumpstarters can earn coursework, fieldwork, or internship credit, receive Federal Work Study, and accumulate service hours, as available.
Why It Matters
Kids in our programs achieve up to twice the gains in literacy skills compared to their peers in non-Jumpstart Kids programs. You’re not just reading a book. You’re building a reader.
