41st Annual MLK Day of Service "A Day On, Not A Day Off"

ABOUT OUR 2024 MLK Day of Service Project:

This year, Georgia State University is hosting a DREAM BIG book drive, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. For our Day of Service project, we will clean, sort and pack the books for distribution!

Did you know?  Only 1 in 300 children in Atlanta, that are experiencing poverty, have a book at home. This puts them at a serious disadvantage--- Having books at home is proven to positively benefit children in a myriad of ways: academic success (literacy AND Math), vocabulary development, attention span and even future job attainment. Studies show that having a book collection PROPELLS a child 3.2 years further in education. Not to mention, reading a book is just FUN! Let's work together to level the playing field for our Atlanta children! 

What can you do?

1. BRING your gently used or new children's books to school between January 4th and January 15th, 2024. Drop-off locations will be available in the Student Center of each GSU campus. You can also bring them Monday to our Day of Service!

2. Register now to attend the MLK Day of Service on January 15th. On this day we need volunteers to clean, repair, sort by reading level, organize and box the donated books for distribution. It's going to be a fun day! We will play music and have lunch together while we work! We need lots of volunteers to make sure our books are ready to go to the homes of little Panthers, so please sign up! (There will be future opportunities to assist with distribution)
